Major upgrades to Kildare Station car park now completed

After commencing in March last year, Iarnród Éireann has completed their major upgrade of Kildare Station Car Park which included a 22% increase in car parking space

After works commenced in March of last year, Iarnród Éireann has completed a major upgrade of Kildare Station Car Park.

The works included:

  • Car parking spaces increased from 135 to 165 spaces, a 22% increase.
  • Bike parking increased from 10 to 60 at new bike shelters.
  • A new pedestrian entrance has been provided from the junction of Dunmurray and Fair green roads.
  • The main station entrance has been re-modelled with dedicated pedestrian footpaths, making it more accessible for all.
  • Footpaths and crosspoints are now provided thoughout the car park.
  • Full car park surfacing took place with all line markings replaced.
  • New lighting  has been installed throughout and a new CCTV system.
  • Future provision is in place for an additional 16 EV charging spaces. Currently two spaces with chargers provided.
  • New dedicated bus set down area to facilitate multi-modal interchange.

Other Kildare Stations are also undergoing accessibility upgrades. Work is ongoing at Athy and Maynooth stations and both are due to be completed this Autumn.

This upgrade is part of Iarnród Éireann’s national Car Park expansion programme. Funded by the National Transport Authority, the network wide car park expansion programme’s objective is to provide greater car parking, bicycle parking, EV charging and bus set down to facilitate growth in multi modal journeys.
