Kildare County Council has confirmed that the business case for a second bridge in Newbridge is “currently under review” by the Department of Transport with “comments expected shortly.”

The council was responding to a question tabled by Cllr Chris Pender (SD) at the July meeting of Kildare Newbridge Municipal District.

Cllr Pender had asked that the council provide an update on the status of the business case for a second bridge in Newbridge, and “clarify whether it has considered or is preparing to deliver the bridge itself without reliance on the developer should the private developer not proceed?”

However, the council noted, the local authority “cannot proceed with any further work on this project until further funding is provided.”
