In its response, Kildare County Council stated that the removal of carparking spaces at the location would require the completion of a statutory process in accordance with Section 38 of the Road Traffic act 1994.
A review of the parking by-laws would also be required, the council wrote.
The council stated: “The merits of removing car parking spaces to increase the space for traffic will require assessment in accordance with the Road User Hierarchy published by the Department of Transport, to ensure its consistency with national policy.”
