Work has started on a new fire station in Maynooth.
The site for the new fire station is located at Mullen Park, Maynooth and has been designed by a multi-disciplined team led by Vincent Hannon and Associates Architects.
Kildare County Council appointed M. L. Quinn Ltd as the main contractor.
The €4.4m project is being funded by the Department of Housing, Local Government & Heritage, through the National Directorate for Fire & Emergency Management.
Maynooth fire station was mobilised to 378 incidents in 2023, making it third busiest of the 6 fire stations in County Kildare.
A key component of the construction of the new 3-bay appliance facility will be the introduction of environmentally friendly features, including the installation of PV panels, air-to water heating systems, as well as insulation of doors, windows, roof, floor and walls to improve conservation of energy to current building regulations standards.
The new design will also incorporate a training yard with drill tower, lecture room, canteen and staff facilities.
The facilities will also include individual changing areas for each crew member.
