A major €779,000 extension to Coill Dubh National School in Co Kildare has received planning approval.

The development will significantly expand the school’s facilities, adding both mainstream and special education classrooms.

Located just outside Naas, the school plans to demolish a water tower and rear annex to make way for a modern two-storey extension.

The new build will include a two-classroom Special Education Unit with additional support rooms at ground level, and a mainstream classroom along with a Special Education Teaching (SET) room on the upper floor.

A further single-storey SET room will be added in the rear courtyard.

The project also includes changes to the existing car parking layout and other associated site works.

The total new floor area of the extension will measure 460 square metres, bringing the overall school size to over 1,700 square metres.

Designed by Dublin-based MCLA McLoughlin Architects, with civil engineering support from DRA Consulting Engineers in Wexford, the development highlights continued investment in Kildare’s educational infrastructure.
