Construction is now progressing on Phase Two of a large-scale renewable biogas and biofertiliser production facility beside the M7 near Monasterevin in Co Kildare.
The new development located at Lackaghmore will process up to 165,000 tonnes of feedstock annually and is set to connect directly to the existing Gas Networks Ireland (GNI) infrastructure.
The developers are Evergreen Agricultural Enterprises Ltd based in Walshestown, Naas.
The estimated construction value of the project - which has a floor area of a massive 19,000 square metres - is €19m.
A renewable biogas and biofertilizer production facility utilizes organic waste to produce biogas, a renewable energy source, and biofertilizer, a nutrient-rich soil amendment.
This process, often involving anaerobic digestion, creates a circular economy by recycling waste and reducing reliance on fossil fuels and synthetic fertilizers.

The facility will include a range of structures and systems essential for its operation. These will comprise:
Input weighbridges and weighbridge offices
A central reception building housing offices, a control room/laboratory, canteen, and staff welfare facilities
A feedstock building and a solid digestate store
Boiler and plant maintenance units, along with ESB and CHP (combined heat and power) storage
Four digestor units, a post-digester unit, a pre-acidification unit, biological desulphurisation systems, and a technical building—all located within a secure containment bund
Covered storage tanks and silage clamps
A connection point to the existing Gas Networks Ireland infrastructure
The project also includes extensive site development, drainage and underground infrastructure works.
An Environmental Impact Assessment Report (EIAR) and a Natura Impact Statement (NIS) have been prepared as part of the planning and compliance process.
Construction Information Services (CIS) database understands that the project promoter will directly oversee the delivery of the scheme.
