An Garda Síochána in Kildare seized a car in Newbridge after uncovering multiple road traffic offences.
Using Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) and Active Mobility technology, Gardaí detected a driver with no insurance who was also operating on a learner permit that had expired in 2008.
The vehicle was stopped and seized at the scene. Gardaí confirmed that court proceedings will now follow.
Officers reminded motorists that valid insurance and a current driving licence are legal requirements, put in place to ensure the safety of all road users.
Gardaí monitoring the M7 motorway in Kildare seized a vehicle after it was flagged by ANPR technology for having no insurance.
When stopped, a check on the Garda Mobility Device confirmed via live Motor Insurers’ Bureau of Ireland (MIBI) data that the car’s policy had been cancelled.
The vehicle was detained and Gardaí said court proceedings will follow.
In a statement, Gardaí urged drivers to keep their insurance up to date, highlighting that uninsured vehicles put other motorists at risk and will be removed from the roads.
