Kildare Gardaí warn motorists not to use areas as "race tracks"

Kildare Gardaí have warned that a stretch of road is "not a racetrack".

Naas Roads Policing Unit carried out a high-visibility speed checkpoint on the R402 at Ardkill and Kilshanroe, Co. Kildare, following complaints from residents.
A total of eight motorists were caught exceeding the 80 km/h limit.

The highest speeds were 142 km/h and 126 km/h.
The penalties are €160 fine and three penalty points.

A Garda spokesperson said: "Ardkill and Kilshanroe are not racetracks.
"Please slow down and drive responsibly."

Meanwhile, in Monread Park, Naas, a scrambler was spotted pulling wheelies.

Gardaí said the rider, wearing a balaclava and no helmet, showed no regard for safety.
When signalled to stop by a Garda motorcyclist, the rider fled at high speed, narrowly missing pedestrians and children.
Our advanced motorcyclist quickly intercepted and arrested the rider for Dangerous and Drug Driving.
The scrambler was seized and charges are to follow for: Dangerous Driving, Drug Driving and  No Insurance.
