Impressive sports centre planned near Naas in Kildare

Plans have been lodged for a new €11 million Padel Centre of Excellence to be developed on lands southwest of Goffs, Greenhilll, Kill, Co Kildare.

Padel is a racket sport typically played in doubles on an enclosed court slightly smaller than a doubles tennis court.

The proposed centre in Greenhills will feature nine indoor padel courts along with a range of supporting facilities. At ground floor level, the development will include refreshment areas, breakout spaces, warm-up and warm-down areas, changing facilities, and a reception area.

A mezzanine floor is also proposed, providing staff welfare facilities, a waiting and viewing area, offices, and storage space.

The project includes significant site works, with a new access road, footpaths, and parking facilities to serve the development.

A new stormwater drainage system, designed in line with SUDS (Sustainable Urban Drainage Systems) guidelines, will also be constructed, along with connections to the foul and public water mains.

If approved, the state-of-the-art facility would represent a major boost for sports in the area and further establish Kill as a hub for both equestrian and leisure activities.

he planning agent is William Donoghue & Associates Ltd, represented by Ray McCullagh in Mountcharles, Co. Donegal. The same firm is also acting as project architect.

Structural engineering services are being provided by GK Consulting Engineers, based in Millbank Business Park, Co. Dublin.

Flood Risk Ireland, located in Co. Sligo, has prepared the flood risk assessment, while sustainability advice is being provided by ORS Consulting Engineers in Dublin’s North Dock.

London-based specialists Es Acoustics are acting as acoustic consultants.

Finally, planning input has also been provided by David Mulcahy Planning Consultants Ltd, based in Newbridge, Co. Kildare.
