A judge ordered that a bed be provided for a child sleeping in their own excrement.
The case came before a Naas District court sitting which heard that the child, who is in foster care, is sleeping in a closet and has started to smear their own excrement on a wall.
The court also heard that a specialist custom-made bed is needed for the child.

A solicitor told the court that the child is sleeping on a mattress and this is an unsuitable arrangement.
The court was also told that the child foster parents are blameless, and are providing excellent care.
The court also hears that the child's predicament is no fault of the foster parents.
Judge Miriam Walsh said the child’s situation represents nothing short of neglect and it is not the fault of the foster parents.
“Everybody needs to be able to sleep in a bed,” she said, adjourning the matter for a date to be put forward by which time a bed would be provided.
