An update on the new fire station for Maynooth, Co Kildare has been given by Kildare County Council.
The update followed questions tabled by Cllr Angela Feeney (LAB) and Cllr Donna Phelan (FF) at September's meeting of Clane Maynooth Municipal District, held on Friday September 5 last.
Cllr Feeney's question asked: “Can the council provide an update as to when the new fire station for Maynooth will open and plans for the vacated site?”, while Cllr Phelan's question similarly asked: “Can the council confirm what plans it has for the soon to be vacant Maynooth Fire Station?”

In its report, Kildare County Council confirmed to councillors that the new fire station in Maynooth is now “substantially complete.”
The report further stated that the contractor is still in possession of the site and is currently dealing with some remedial snag items, as well as awaiting the installation of an Eircom line into the building.
Once all of these remaining issues are completed, the report continued, the building will be handed over to the fire service.
The report concluded: “Control of the current fire station building is being taken by the Community Directorate, with the future use of the building being determined by that directorate.
“The Community and Housing and Regeneration teams are working together to develop a Feasibility Study for the entire site incorporating the Fire Station.”
