An online petition is calling on Kildare County Council (KCC) to close set of archways in one County Kildare town.
The petition, which was set up by Social Democrats councillor Chris Pender over the weekend, is currently live on Change.org.
Explaining the reason why the petition was set up, Cllr Pender claimed that on a daily basis, cars "squeeze through the Francis Street and Thomas Street archways off Main Street in Newbridge".
He elaborated: "Parents and schoolchildren are forced to share these narrow, dangerous spaces with vehicles, and there are near misses almost every morning.
"It’s time to put safety first; I’m calling on KCC to pedestrianise the arches permanently, keeping them open for people walking, cycling, and using mobility aids while ensuring access for emergency services."
