Former Clare manager Micheál McDermott has left his post at Celbridge GAA after three years at the helm of the perennial Kildare SFC contenders. McDermott brought the club to two finals in his first two years before exiting the 2025 Championship at the semi-final stage, losing to Naas on all three occasions.

It was so near and so far for Celbridge under McDermott who lost their county finals by two points in '23 and one in '24 to a brilliant Naas team.

In a statement made about his departure, Celbridge GAA shared: "As the Kildare Senior Football season comes to a close, Celbridge GAA Club would like to extend a massive thank you to our Senior Football Management led by Micheál Mcdermott. Thank you for all yours and your backroom teams' hard work, dedication, and commitment throughout the past three years. Micheál has now decided to step away, having led the club to two finals in the last three years.

"While this year didn’t go as hoped, his dedication to the team and the club never wavered. We’re grateful for the time, energy, and passion he gave to the role, and we wish him all the best in whatever comes next.
Míle buíochas."
The Cavan man has experienced great success in his coaching career and will no doubt pick up another high-profile job should he desire it.
