Kildare South Fine Gael TD, and Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine, Martin Heydon has welcomed confirmation from his colleague, Minister for Health Jennifer Carroll MacNeill and the HSE that the proposed works on St Vincent’s Hospital Athy have progressed to design and tender stage.
Speaking last week, Minister Heydon said: “St Vincent’s Hospital in Athy holds a special place in the hearts of the people of Athy and surrounding areas, and Cllr Ivan Keatley and I have long campaigned to see the hospital maintained and upgraded for the benefit of the people of Athy and surrounding areas.

“I was delighted to receive confirmation from my colleague Minister for Health Jennifer Carroll MacNeill that the planned works that will see Phase 1 of the 92 bed Community Nursing Unit project at St Vincent’s Hospital is currently at Stage 2C, detailed design and preparation of tender documents.”
“This is welcome news that will see the project through tender stages in early 2026, with hopes that construction can begin in 2026, subject to a successful tender process outcome”.
Concluding, Minister Heydon said: “This is a very welcome progress ensuring the great care that has been provided by St. Vincent’s down through the years, continues to the benefit of residents of South Kildare for generations to come.”
