'Get over yourself' - Kildare people baffled by complaints about dogs weeing on footpath
Followers of a Naas community Facebook page have been reacting to a complaint from a resident of the town over dogs peeing outside their house.
The issue was shared to the 'Naas A Great Place To ?' Facebook page this week and has sparked a strong reaction from fellow locals.
The post from the disgruntled resident said: "To the dog owner who keeps letting their dog pee on our doorstep: Please stop.
"We live just off the main street, but that doesn’t mean our front step has to be your dog's toilet. There is a tree close by that’s far more suitable.
"Our kids walk out this door every morning for school and have to dodge the puddles. It’s unpleasant and inconsiderate.
"Please be more thoughtful and use the nearby tree instead. Thank you."

A large number of the almost 200 comments on the post took issue with the complaint, with one saying, "my dog cocks his leg everywhere when I'm walking him, what can I do? I'll pick up the poo but the wee?"
Another argued, "it's a footpath, not your doorstep."
Most of the comments were along similar lines. A third person wrote: "You can't exactly stop a dog p**sing or drag them away. A small dog, fair enough, can pick it up and carry it away and risk the possibility of being p**sed on but as long as your doorstep is safe! Jesus christ, what's the world coming to?"
Another added: "Really??? That’s hilarious. It’s a bit of wee for gods sake, worse things happening in the world."
The administrator of the page itself responded to that comment by saying: "Obviously worse things happen but doesn't take away from a dog owner allowing his/her/them to pee on people's steps."
Other comments were more sympathetic to the residents. One person said: "They’re asking for people not to let their dogs pee on their front doorstep, that’s not an unreasonable request."
A second said, "it’s basic respect and consideration for other people!"
A third took issue with the commenters making light of the situation: "So you think it's ok even though kids, homeowners and guests could step into this and walk into the house where kids drop all kinds of stuff on the floor, pick it up, often put stuff off the floor in their mouths...you get the idea. I have a neighbour whose cat poops in my front garden. I hate it and it really annoys me that we have to clean it up but I fully understand that's it's impossible to control a cat."
One followers replied to that message by simply adding, "you can’t stop dogs peeing. Poop completely different story, you can pick that up."
