A local councillor stressed to Kildare County Council (KCC) that upcoming plans for limited free Christmas parking needed to be properly advertised.

The sentiment was expressed by Fianna Fáil Cllr David Trost at the latest Celbridge-Leixlip Municipal District (MD) meeting, which took place on Friday, November 21 last.

His call related to a question he submitted at the meeting, which read as follows: "Can KCC confirm what communication is being issued to the public following the recent approval for limited free parking for two weeks in Celbridge and Leixlip, and confirm if a press release and local stickers on payment points will be displayed to minimise any potential confusion for the public?"

Responding to Cllr Trost's query via the report it presented at the meeting, KCC assured him that communications "will be issued as part of standard Christmas arrangements [which are] issued by Corporate Services annually".

The council further said: "Additional information will be issued through social media channels and the council’s website in advance.

"KCC is engaging with the contractor to check if the pay parking machines can be adjusted to take account of the members’ request."

However, KCC added that it "cannot guarantee at this time that the machines will not accept payment".

Cllr Trost in turn told KCC that he was unhappy with this response.
