Compulsive viewing ? Certainly not.

Only 13 people “tuned in” to watch a Kildare County Council meeting.

That equates to about a third of a person per councillor - given that there are 40 elected politicians.

The figure was provided by Cllr Tim Durkan as he and his colleagues were asked by Sinn Féin’s Noel Connolly to consider live streaming meetings of the various municipal district committees - groups of councillors in specific areas.

There are five municipal districts within County Kildare. 

They are: Athy, Celbridge-Leixlip, Clane-Maynooth, Kildare-Newbridge and Naas.

There was a mixed reaction to the idea from the councillors and KCC official Joe Boland said that cost would not be a factor which might prevent an extension of live streaming - because the infrastructure which facilitates this is already in place.
