"Several surveys" have been conducted at a housing site which is located in South Kildare, according to Kildare County Council (KCC).
The comments were made by KCC in response to a query submitted by Labour Party councillor Aoife Breslin at the latest Athy Municipal District meeting, which took place yesterday (Monday, December 8 last).
At this meeting, she asked KCC for an update in relation to the redevelopment of the housing units at Canal Side in Athy.
In response to her query, KCC said via the report it presented at the meeting that a feasibility study of the site had been carried out and submitted to the Planning Department.

KCC continued: "The site has been highlighted as having a protected view as the units are located within an architectural conservation and natural heritage area.
"The site is also adjacent to the planned Greenway and Barrow Blueway Scheme.
"The feasibility study also assessed the existing buildings to see if they are viable for adaptation to provide social housing or if a reinstatement of contemporary buildings per the existing footprint is the most viable option."
"Several surveys have been carried out on the site such as structural, asbestos, topographical, etc."
KCC also told Cllr Breslin that ongoing negotiations with the Planning Department "on an agreed approach" are expected to be finalised in early 2026.
