A roads policing unit (RPU) operating in County Kildare has issued a warning to the general public about driving a vehicle without it being properly taxed.

The warning was issued by the official An Garda Síochána Kildare account on Facebook earlier today (December 31).

The account explained that Naas RPU recently stopped a vehicle recently at a checkpoint.

"Driver explained they were 'only driving it since buying it'… unfortunately that was over 547 days ago," the account added.

It also said that the vehicle was seized, a €125 impound fee was applied, and a Fixed Charge Penalty Notice was issued to the motorist for  having no tax on their vehicle.

The account also stressed: "[The] vehicle must now be taxed before it can be released.

"Remember folks — we can’t be everywhere, but we could be anywhere, so do yourself a favour: tax the auld car, save yourself a headache and head into the New Year stress-free."

The account added: "Drive safe and Happy New Year from Naas RPU."
