Trains are passing through this Kildare train station 'because they're full'

Action is needed to tackle daily congestion along M7 and N7 routes linking Kildare and Dublin.

Cllr Fintan Brett told a Naas Municipal District committee meeting he could not understand why plans were not made to provide a rail line in the vicinity of these routes over the past 20-30 years.

“We need to get these roads sorted out,” he said.

He wants a meeting with representatives of the National Roads Authority and Transport Infrastructure Ireland, which has responsibility for main traffic routes and transport policy.

Cllr Evie Sammon said people living in Kildare are being failed by public transport policy.

Some trains are “skipping Sallins train station” because they are full.

Cllr Sammon also said that the extra carriages proposed for trains taking commuters to and from Dublin “have not come.”
