The property is located in north Kildare and is effectively State-owned

The 18th century Donaghcumper House in Celbridge must be restored.

That‘s according to local councillor Claire O’Rourke who said the Office of Public Works should be asked about plans for it "in light of the magnificent restoration of Castletown House by the OPW over the last decades.”

Cllr O’Rourke criticised the decision to have a meeting between KCC officials and a government minister about the property - in the absence of local councillors.

She was supported by Cllr Nuala Killeen. who said a meeting with the OPW should take place as soon as possible.

Kildare County Council has got approval from the majority of its 40 councillors to buy Donaghcumper House with the OPW

In January 2025, a majority of councillors approved the move with 25 in favour and seven against.

This was despite reservations expressed by some of the politicians at the time about the need to preserve a right of way or walking route.
