Minister confirms eight North Kildare school projects to progress under National School Investment Plan

Local Fianna Fail Minister, James Lawless TD has welcomed the publication by Minister for Education and Youth, Hildegarde Naughton TD of the €7.55 bn NDP Sectoral Investment Plan for 2026–2030.

Under the plan, eight schools in North Kildare will have substantial plans progressed in 2026-2027.

According to Minister Lawless, the Kildare North school projects progressing to tender / construction in 2026–2027 are:

  • St Mary’s College, Naas – new school building (Post-Primary)

  • St Farnan’s, Prosperous – new school building (Post-Primary)

  • Presentation Girls School, Maynooth – extension

  • Scoil Mhuire, Naas – extension

  • Gael Scoil Ruairí, Maynooth – new school building

  • Gaelscoil Uí Fhiaich, Maynooth – modular extension

  • Gaelscoil Nás na Ríogh, Naas – modular extension

  • Celbridge Community School – modular accommodation

Minister Lawless said of the announcement: “this is a major boost for school capacity and modern facilities here in Kildare North.

“The plan confirms that 105 school projects nationwide will progress to tender or construction in 2026 and 2027, representing over €1.6bn in investment and delivering 27,000 modernised school places. A further 300 projects already at construction will complete by 2026, providing another 30,000 school places.

“This provides real certainty for schools that have been waiting for progress. Kildare is one of the biggest beneficiaries given our growing population and demand for places.”

Minister Lawless pointed out that between 2020 and 2025, €397 million has been invested in Kildare schools with:

  • 47 schools upgraded

  • 9 projects currently under construction

  • 12 more projects to move to tender or construction in 2026/2027

  • 74 special classes opened since 2020.
