Kildare Wildlife Rescue welcomed it's first orphan of the year last week.
"Our first bottle baby of the year is here, and earlier than last year," said the organisation on it's Facebook page.
"On February 3, we admitted this leveret after they were found on a busy football field during practice. After nearly being trampled, the team moved play away from the area the leveret was, and the finder kept an eye on its location. Following practice, the field was being utilised by off lead dogs, and it was decided the area was unsafe for the leveret to remain in. The finder transported the leveret to one of our volunteers and it has since been transported to one of our lisened foster carers.
"As we gear up for the busy season ahead, if you notice an animal in need, please email our HelpDesk at info@kwr.ie with a short video, location, and reason for your concern. They offer professional advice on Irish wildlife in need and when to intervene. Or contact your local wildlife rehabber."
Kildare Wildlife Rescue said that nearly 600 of last year's cases concerned orphaned wildlife. Check out Kildare Wildlife Rescue on Facebook for more details.
