Newbridge Library may open at the end of the month, according to Kildare Library Service.

An update on the facility was issued yesterday (February 11 last) by one of the town's local representatives, Social Democrats councillor Chris Pender.

Taking to social media, Cllr Pender noted that improvement works have been taking place at the facility for the last number of weeks.

He further said: "I’ve had a number of messages over the past few weeks asking when Newbridge Library will reopen.

"I contacted the Library Service seeking a clear update."

According to Cllr Pender, the Library Service provided him with a number of brief updates in relation to the facility:

  • "The team has been packing and relocating stock, shelving and furniture since December
  • "Substantial works were required at Liffey Lodge to convert it into a Community Library, offices and delivery space for Library HQ
  • "Some delays occurred due to weather and finishing works
  • "Collections, shelving and furniture have now been moved into Liffey Lodge
  • "Shelving still needs to be assembled and books placed
  • "KCC IT cannot begin installing network connections and systems until next week at the earliest," and:
  • "Before reopening, the building must meet fire, access, security and health and safety requirements."

Cllr Pender also told the public: "The current expectation is that Newbridge Library will reopen later this month, once all works are complete and it is safe to do so."

However, he emphasised that there is no confirmed date yet.

"I know how important this service is to so many of you," Cllr Pender added. "I will share the confirmed reopening date as soon as it is provided."
