Naas Roads Policing Unit recently carried out a special operation in Newbridge, Kildare targeting drivers who blatantly broke the red traffic light signal — behaviour that poses a serious risk to other road users, especially pedestrians.

A total of seven offences were detected by gardai, including one bus driver.

All drivers were issued with an €80 Fixed Charge Penalty Notice (FCPN) along with three penalty points.

An Garda Síochána Kildare would like to remind members of the public:

“Drivers, pedal cyclists and e-scooter users — you must obey red traffic light signals at all times.

Pedestrians:

  • Obey traffic light signals.
  • Only cross when it is safe to do so.
  • Ensure all vehicles have come to a complete stop before crossing.
  • Stay alert and keep watching all around you.
  • Do not allow yourself to be distracted by mobile phones or other devices.

Road safety is everyone’s responsibility.

Please make the right choice and help keep our roads safe.”
