A new second level school has been approved for west Wicklow.

Fine Gael TD Edward Timmins said the long-awaited new Blessington Community College is going to tender.

He said he’s been working with the principal and deputy principals as well as parents and “school community” since 2022 “to advance the project.”

“This will ensure the educational needs of the Blessington area are met. The new school was first announced in 2018,” he said, adding that a new 1,000-pupil school was approved early in 2023.

He thanked principal Kieran Burke, deputy principals Kevin Kelly and Ian Swan, the parents’ council “and my constituency colleague, Tánaiste Simon Harris, for their continued commitment and support in progressing this vital project.”
