A Fianna Fáil councillor is calling for the introduction of CCTV cameras in a Kildare Municipal District in order to help combat illegal dumping.

Cllr Brian Dooley will table his motion - “That the council rolls out the installation of CCTV cameras in the municipal district, similar to those in Edmund Rice Square, in areas with high levels of illegal dumping” - at the March meeting of Athy Municipal District, to be held in Áras Chill Dara, Naas, on March 16 2026.

Elsewhere, Cllr Veralouise Behan (FF) asks the council to facilitate a full public consultation and to work with TII (Transport Infrastructure Ireland) with regards to designing “park and ride concepts” along the Athy section of the M9 motorway.

Separately, Cllr Behan asks that the council work with Local Link with a view to increasing the frequency of the 880 bus service to an hourly service.

Meanwhile, staying on Transport, and Cllr Aoife Breslin (LAB) asks that the council investigates the feasibility of installing a footpath from the existing footpath in Kilberry to the graveyard in Kilberry.

Cllr Breslin also asks that the council carry out a road safety audit and installs additional public lighting on the roadway outside Athy Train Station, “in the interest of safety.”

A separate motion from Cllr Leigh calls on the council to provide free WiFi “in all its community halls” and other indoor spaces in the municipal district used by the public in council ownership.

And finally, similar to Cllr Dooley's motion, Cllr Veralouise Behan (FF) asks if the council can confirm if it plans to address the dumping issues on Meeting Lane, Athy.
