The provision of free Wi-Fi is being sought for community halls located in one County Kildare Municipal District (MD).

The request was put forward by Labour Party councillor Mark Leigh at the latest Athy MD meeting, which took place on Monday, March 16 last.

Specifically, he motioned for Kildare County Council (KCC) to "provide free Wi-Fi in all its community halls and other indoor spaces in this MD used by the public in council ownership".

In response to Cllr Leigh's motion, KCC said via the report it presented at the meeting: "Facilities are currently looking into the associated costs with installing Wi-Fi in Community buildings that currently do not have it already."

In other Labour Party-related news associated with Athy, at the same MD meeting, Labour Party Cllr Aoife Breslin asked KCC to provide an update on the construction of the housing units planned for the Ardrew region.
