Gardai in Kildare encountered an unfortunate learner driver recently, who paid the cost of not obeying the law.
The driver, in Kilcullen, Co Kildare spotted a garda checkpoint and performed a hasty 'u-turn' in an attempt to avoid detection.
However, just 200 yards down the road, the hapless driver was apprehended by Naas Roads Policing Unit.
It transpired that the motorist was a learner driver with no qualified driver to accompany them.
The result was as follows:
The car was impounded under Section 41 of the Roads Traffic Act.
A Fixed Charge Penalty Notice (FCPN) was issued.
In total, a fine of €160 was issued, along with two penalty points.
A garda spokesperson said: “Lesson of the day: Don't try to outsmart a checkpoint. Stay legal and stay safe, folks.”
