A local councillor has requested Kildare County Council (KCC) to carry out an assessment of the Moyglare Road in Maynooth.

Social Democrats Cllr Peter Melrose urged action on the matter at the latest Clane-Maynooth Municipal District meeting, which took place on Friday, April 10 last.

Specifically, Cllr Melrose, who appeared at the meeting by virtual means, motioned for KCC to undertake an assessment of the Moyglare Road "for the introduction of traffic calming measures, including but not limited to raised pedestrian crossings, speed ramps and driver speed feedback signs".

His motion was seconded by Fianna Fail Cllr Daragh Fitzpatrick.

In response to Cllr Melrose’s motion, KCC said via the report it presented at the meeting: "It is important to note that the Moyglare Road was upgraded a few years ago as part of the Maynooth North South corridor scheme funded by the National Transport Authority.

"Safety audits would have been carried out during design and on completion of this scheme."

KCC added: "The Municipal District office will arrange for a traffic count and speed survey to be carried out on the Moyglare Road to help inform any decision-making process."

Moreover, a representative for KCC who was also in attendance at the meeting assured the councillors that KCC is aware of the issues on the Moyglare Road.

Cllr Melrose in turn told KCC that he was "glad to see some movement" on the issue, especially as some drivers had been driving "at unacceptable speed" on the road.
