3Arena introduces full body pat-down searches and bans large handbags

Dublin's 3Arena has said it has strengthened its security measures following last week's terrorist attack in Manchester in which 22 people were killed at an Ariana Grande concert in the city. The 3Arena released an update on its new security procedures ahead of Shawn Mendes' gig at the North Wall venue tonight. 18-year-old Canadian singer Mendes has a very strong following among younger music fans. In an email to ticket purchasers for upcoming gigs, Ticketmaster said the Updated Security Advisory was 'due to recent events and heightened awareness'. Backpacks and larger bags or purses will not be allowed into the 3Arena venue as part of revised security restrictions. The statement continues: "Only purses or clutches measuring 11.4cm x 16.51cm or smaller will be permitted. "Those going to the concert are advised that a full body pat down search and/or a metal detector search will take place prior to venue entry. Pocket contents will need to be completely emptied and viewed during the search process. "Concert goers are also encouraged to minimise jackets and additional layers when possible. As these measures will take extra time patrons are advised to arrive at the venue early. The measures will be introduced for other fans going to upcoming gigs including Michael Bolton, Michael McIntyre, Eddie Vedder, Ricky Gervais, Aerosmith and Radiohead. The organisers added: "Reviewing the above policies in advance and adhering to them the night of the show will ensure that everyone gains entry to the venue in a safe and timely manner. "As always, we encourage fans to arrive early and we thank you in advance. Due to these security checks it will understandably take longer for customers to gain entry into the venue."
