By Kim O'Leary Celbridge Community School has finally secured permanent premises with a site identified in Donaghcumper, Celbridge, Co Kildare. Kildare County Council and An Board Pleanala have accepted the school’s application for new premises which was first lodged in 2015 shortly after the school opened its doors in a temporary building in August 2015. Celbridge Community School is a co-educational, multi-denominational mixed school with 142 students consisting of 94 boys and 46 girls and 30 members of staff, including principal Gerard O’Leary who was appointed in 2015. At the time of his appointment Mr O'Leary said: "Celbridge Community School will be a truly modern and exciting school that will be a leader in innovation and will ensure that every student is provided with the opportunities to reach their true potential in a caring environment where every student is happy.” Fine Gael North Kildare TD Bernard Durkan has said that the acquisition of the site in Donaghcumper is "currently underway" and that it may be several months before the school seeks to move from its temporary accommodation. The school is expected to be operated dually by Kildare Wicklow Education and Training Board (KWETB) and Educate Together. The primary vision of the school is to create a welcoming, vibrant school community where every member feels a real sense of belonging.
