Pressure mounting for 'Naas Ball' to go green for St Patrick's Day

Time is running out for a campaign to turn the 'Naas Ball' green for St Patrick's Day. Local TD James Lawless said that Traffic Infrastructure Ireland, which operates the country's motorways, have no objection to the proposal. However the final decision must be made by Kildare Co Council. Other famous landmarks in Ireland and around the world go green for the national feast day on March 17. It's believed that local contractors are ready and willing to install the green-tinged lights at the Naas Ball for free.
However the Naas Ball is located within the lands made available for current roadworks on the N7/M7, accordingly, the contractor may have to be consulted.
This 9-meter diameter sphere, unveiled in 1996, is constructed with steel-reinforced concrete and has a tarmac-like exterior. The surface designs depict various road markings which may suggest movement across a globe.
