Tributes paid to Straffan teen Shane Duggan (16) who tragically passed away on Saturday from injuries sustained in cycling accident last week

By Kim O'Leary Tributes have been paid to a teenager who tragically died following a cycling accident in Straffan last week as he was cycling home from school, while his funeral details have been announced today. Shane Duggan (16) from Straffan was out cycling at Oughterard, Straffan, at 4.50pm on Tuesday, July 3 when he was involved in a collision with a car. He was rushed to Beaumont Hospital and he sadly passed away from his injuries on Saturday, July 7. It is understood that Shane was a third year student at St Vincent's Castleknock College in Dublin, and over the weekend the school paid tribute to him on Saturday July 7, posting on the school's website. In a statement St Vincent's Castleknock College in Dublin said: "It is with a heavy heart that we inform you of the tragic and untimely death of our brother Shane Duggan, 3rd Year. Shane was involved in a roadside accident near his home in Ardclough on Tuesday 3 July. His twin brother Connor was with him at the time and was not injured. Shane put up a brave fight but died today at Beaumount Hospital surrounded by his loving family. May he rest in peace. Fr John organised a period of reflection in the College Chapel on Sunday for staff, students and parents. Shane’s funeral Mass will take place at 12 noon in St Anne’s Church Ardclough, Co Kildare on Wednesday 11 July. Transport may be provided by the College if there is sufficient demand." Shane's funeral details were also announced today by his family on www.rip.ieThe death has occurred of Shane DUGGANTurnings, Straffan, Kildare Duggan, Shane, Turnings, Straffan, Co. Kildare, July 7th 2018, peacefully at Beaumount Hospital surrounded by his loving family. Deeply regretted by his loving parents Derek and Mary, brother Conor, grandparents Frances Duggan and John and Mary Buggle, aunts, uncles, cousins, relatives and friends. Rest In Peace Reposing at his home (Eircode W23 E2V8) from 4pm on Tuesday with prayers at 8pm. Arriving at St. Anne's Church, Ardclough for 12pm Funeral Mass on Wednesday, followed by burial in Donacomper Cemetery, Celbridge. Family flowers only please, donations, if desired, to the Beaumount Hospital Foundation. All of the staff at KildareNow would like to express their heartfelt sympathies and condolences to the Duggan family at this sad time.
