A North Kildare TD is after  welcoming  the completion of flood alleviation works at Hazelhatch, as Deputy O’Rourke secured a commitment for an extensive study to be carried out of the general Hazelhatch area to access any other causes of flooding in the area. He said: "Earlier this year, I secured funding from the Office of Public Works and Minister Kevin Boxer Moran to carry out flood alleviation works at Hazelhatch in Celbridge. These works are now completed." Deputy O'Rourke said:“These works include the installation of a new grid at the culvert adjacent to Primrose Gate Housing Estate and the cleaning of associated channels. These issues were identified by the OPW and Kildare Co Co as the specific causes of the flooding during last November.” He said:“I again met with the Minister for the OPW last week and pressed to have a complete study carried out to assess any other potential issues which may lead to flooding in the area. The Minister has now given me a commitment that the OPW, have approved consultants to work with Kildare County Council and will carry out a study to examine any other potential causes of flooding. The study will be completed by the end of this year." Deputy O'Rourke said:“The 11metres Lower Morrell Flood Relief Scheme, approved by An Bord Pleanála, is now held up due to a judicial review. This is an important flood relief scheme for the areas from Straffan to Killeenmore to Kill, and works on the scheme was due to commence last month. I hope the legal issues can be resolved and that we get movement on this scheme as well.”
