Organisers of the first ever Monasterevin Darkness Into Light walk/run are calling on locals to come out on Saturday morning May 6 at 3am and get involved for a good cause.

It is the first time that Monasterevin will host the event, which is now in its ninth year in Ireland, and a large crowd is expected to come along to the south Kildare town to take part in the fundraiser.

The Darkness Into Light run raises money for Pieta House, a charity that assists in suicide prevention, and the Monasterevin event will be run concurrently with other runs/walks all over the country at the same time on that morning.

The run will begin in darkness, but finishes as daylight breaks.

Participants are asked to meet at the Monasterevin GAA clubhouse at 3am, where a gospel choir will be performing before people take off on the run.

Paul Molloy , Event Co-Ordinator for Monasterevin "wants everyone to wake up and join us in support of families and friends affected by suicide and self harm , in Monasterevin for a community event in a lovely atmosphere."
