Fellow Independent Ireland councillor Ger Dunne is the deputy mayor

Bill Clear is the new mayor in Naas for the next 12 months.

He was handed the chain of office by outgoing mayor Seamie Moore at the Naas Municipal District committee annual meeting.

The Independent Ireland councillor, who topped the poll in the Naas area in the last local elections (2024) was put forward for the role by his party colleague Ger Dunne and was seconded by Fianna Fáil councillor Carmel Kelly.

He was elected unopposed.

Labour’s Anne Breen put herself forward but she got no support and so no vote was necessary.

Mayor Clear said he will prioritise the regeneration of Naas town centre over the coming twelve months in tandem with the work of Naas Tidy Towns.

The deputy mayor will be Cllr Dunne, who was proposed by independent councillor Seamie Moore, with Cllr mayor again seconding.
