The driver was ‘in a state of panic’

A motorist undertook a vehicle and drove at up to 170 km/h, Naas District Court was told.

Raul Akdi Jimenez, a teenager, whose address was given as Sheelin North Road, Drogheda, was prosecuted for dangerous driving on the N7 near Kill on July 3, 2025.

The incident occurred at 2.10pm

It was claimed that the 19 year old was driving “aggressively.”

Barrister Seán Egan noted the defendant’s driving was “far too fast.”

He said his client was running late for work and was “in a state of panic” because he was subject to ”overweening management.”

He said the defendant feared being in trouble with his employer.

He asked that the case be reduced from dangerous driving to careless driving, adding “I understand we’re asking a lot.”

Mr Egan said the man made a foolish error because of pure panic and he did not have the maturity and experience to put the issues he was dealing with in a proper context.

Mr Egan added that the defendant would not appear in court again and said a disqualification would have an “inordinate impact” on him.

Judge Peter White said she accepted that the defendant was stressed but this did not justify his driving.

“It’s more careless,” he said, imposing a €500 fine and a two year disqualification.
