Woman was 'sexually assaulted' at Kildare GAA club, court claim

It will be alleged that the defendant drove her there
A woman was sexually assaulted at a GAA club in Kildare.
That was the allegation made at a Naas District Court sitting.
It is claimed that the offence took place in the GAA grounds on a date unknown between May 1, 2024 and July 24, 2024.
Sgt Mary Meade said it will be alleged that the defendant was aged 18 at the time and the female injured party was aged 16.
She said it will be alleged that the defendant drove her to the premises, put his arm across her and put his finger into her vagina.
Judge Desmond Zaidan queried the DPP decision to proceed with a sexual assault allegation instead of a more serious allegation in a case of alleged digital penetration.
The court heard that a book of evidence was served on the defendant.
Judge Zaidan sent the case forward to be heard at Naas Circuit Court. He told the defendant that if an alibi forms any part of his defence he must give details of this to the gardaí before 14 days elapse.
He also granted the defendant free legal aid.
