The sons of US tourist Stephen Termini have confirmed that he is out of a coma, and is slowly recovering.

Mike and Jesse told Virgin Media news that there father is out of a coma, but there is some concern about his eye, following a serious injury caused to it during the recent assault on Talbot Street in Dublin.

They said they are taking things just "hour by hour" and thanked everyone in Ireland who have been "super helpful" to them.

Many Irish people have apologised to them for what happened to their father, but the sons say they don't believe Ireland is defined by the incident.

Stephen Termini, 57, from New York state, was seriously injured in an attack in Talbot Street in the city centre on July 19.

Three teenage youths have appeared in court in Dublin charged in connection with the assault on Mr Termini.
