Four men appeared before a sitting of the district court on Wednesday evening while nine more are due to appear in court this Thursday
A garda required medical treatment after they sustained injuries during a public order incident at Ballyogan refugee centre in south Dublin on Wednesday.
Gardai have confirmed that a total of thirteen people were arrested during the protests which continued for a number of hours.
Four men appeared before a sitting of the district court on Wednesday evening while nine more are due to appear in court this Thursday.
"While assisting IPAS personnel at a premises on the Ballyogan road on the evening of Wednesday, May 22 2024, gardaí arrested nine persons for public order offences. Five men and four women were detained at garda stations in the Dublin Region," said a spokesperson who confirmed that the nine individuals have all since been charged and will appear before Dun Laoghaire District Court.
It's understood they are accused of public order offences including failing to comply with a garda's direction to leave the vicinity and preventing or interrupting the free passage of a person or vehicle.
The arrests were made following a number of incidents at the refugee centre which saw the entrance being blocked and staff being prevented from entering and leaving.
Gardai say investigations into all of the incidents are ongoing.
