A man in his 30s is being detained as investigators probe the fatal incident at a home in Donegal

Man (60s) killed in early hours assault at Donegal home as gardaí arrest man (30s)

A man in his 60s has died following a fatal assault at a domestic residence near Ardara, Co Donegal in the early hours of Monday morning.

Gardaí and emergency services were alerted to an assault at a residence outside the town at approximately 3.50am.

The victim, a male aged in his 60s, was pronounced dead at the scene. 

A second man, aged in his 30s, was later arrested at another location and is currently being detained at a Garda station in Co Donegal.

The scene remains sealed off for examination by the Garda Technical Bureau, and the office of the State Pathologist has been notified.

A Senior Investigating Officer has been appointed to lead the investigation and an incident room has been established at Ballyshannon Garda Station.

A Family Liaison Officer (FLO) has been assigned to support the family of the deceased.

Investigations are ongoing.
