Interview: New Kildare LGFA Chairperson Pat Travers excited to get going

New Kildare LGFA Chairperson Pat Travers

Pat Travers has been announced as the new Kildare LGFA Chairperson following last week’s Emergency General Meeting.
The Leixlip man takes over following a tumultuous time at board level for Kildare with resignations en masse of the previous Kildare LGFA Executive.

Travers said, “I don't know if anything was missing, but I hope to bring enthusiasm and positivity. I am massively behind ladies football in this county, I think it's a hugely enjoyable sport to be involved in. I am coaching with Leixlip and I hope to bring my enthusiasm for the game to this job too.

The new Chairperson has also met the woman at the helm of the high-flying Kildare senior ladies team, Diane O’Hora, and had huge praise for the Mayo legend.

He said, “I’ve met Diane, a very impressive person. She is very driven and has a huge desire to bring success to Kildare, so I am delighted to be associated with a proven winner.”

Travers has experience on the sideline himself having managed Kildare at U16 level, giving him a unique insight into all of the Kildare underrage and senior management perspectives.

“The management at different levels in Kildare has been incredible, the minors with Darren Kedrick, Kevin Jones at U14 recently, and James Costello last year with the U14s. To have such well established management groups in place is a real bonus,” he explained.

Travers and the new Kildare LGFA Executive are still very much in the early stages of their time in charge having only been appointed last Tuesday. The new Executive met the day after the EGM to get the ball rolling in their new positions and the new Chairperson said they are currently just finding their feet.

Travers concluded, “I am grateful for the support of Brady’s Family Ham and to have them on board. I am looking forward to meeting them, and our other sponsors, to see what we can do to support them like they have supported us.

“I am really excited at the prospect of getting involved with something that has such great potential. We are really close to dining at the top table at senior level. Then you have the minors starting on Tuesday, who are about to go off on their third campaign, so there is a lot to look forward to.”
