This is a one-day event

Kildare County Council (KCC) has issued a reminder that a Mattress Amnesty Day has been announced for this weekend.

The event was was originally announced last month, and it was also promoted by Newbridge-based Fine Gael councillor Peggy O’Dwyer.

And now, KCC has reminded Kildare residents that the event, which will take place in partnership with AES Recycling and is supported by the Circular Economy Fund, will allow Kildare residents to bring unwanted mattresses for free disposal.

According to KCC, the amnesty will provide ‘a convenient and environmentally responsible way to dispose of old household mattresses’.

However, KCC also emphasised:

  • This event is for mattresses only
  • Double, single and triple mattresses only will be accepted
  • Maximum of six mattresses per delivery
  • No other waste or bulky household items will be accepted
  • The event is not open to commercial or charity entities and is restricted to household customers
  • Divans, pillows, bed frames, foot stools, couches, armchairs are not accepted

KCC concluded: “Take this opportunity to dispose of old mattresses responsibly and help keep County Kildare clean and litter-free.”

Anyone seeking further information about this event can contact KCC’s Environment Department on 045 980 588 or via email at [email protected].

The Mattress Amnesty Day will take place on Sunday, September 6, 2026 at AES Recycling, Silliot Hill in Kilcullen.

It will begin at 8.30am and conclude at 3pm.
