Alex Beirne has had his red card from Kildare's Allianz Football League Division 2 clash with Derry upheld. The Naas forward was dismissed after half an hour following an off the ball incident with Derry's Gareth McKinless and will now miss The Lilies' trip to Cavan this Sunday.

Kildare fan footage captured the video which was shared on Allianz Football League Sunday.

The incident has become a red hot talking point in the GAA sphere with Kildare fans accusing the Derry player of "play acting" and one supporter calling the upholding of the red card "pathetic."

Defenders of the decision have pointed towards the Naas man's movement towards the opposition player prior to his flop to the floor.

Kildare, without the aid of star forward Alex Beirne, face Cavan, who are without a point in Allianz Football League Division 2, in Kingpsan Breffni this Sunday, February 22. Throw-in is set for 3pm in a massive game for both sides, Kildare have three points from their three games while Cavan are without one, a lot at stake here for all concerned.
