Kildare resident (33) spat at Lidl supermarket manager - court hears

A man with a Kildare address appeared in court for assault after spitting at a Lidl manager in Laois.

Martins Lavrinovics (33) of 14 Roseberry Terrace, Newbridge, Co Kildare was convicted of assaulting the victim at Lidl, Portlaoise and engaging in threatening or abusive behaviour on March 5, 2024.

Judge Andrew Cody asked the defendant, who wasn’t legally represented in court, if he had read the Probation Report.

“You don’t seem to be addressing your alcohol problem,” he said.

The man said he no longer drinks much but admitted having a drink daily.

“Now I will have one beer, this is nothing,” he told Judge Cody.

Judge Cody told the man that alcohol was the cause of all of his problems.

“This was an assault on the manager in Lidl,” said Judge Cody. “You spat at him,” he said.

He convicted the man and imposed a two month sentence which he suspended for two years.
