A file has been opened on a derelict site located in South Kildare.

Kildare County Council (KCC) confirmed the measures being taken to the site at the latest Athy Municipal District meeting, which took place on Monday, January 19 last.

The answer was provided to Fianna Fáil councillor Brian Dooley, who appeared by virtual means and asked the following question at the meeting: "Can KCC progress a report on necessary upgrades to Athy Town from the Kilkenny Road, in particular where there is a derelict fuel station and broken pedestrian bollards?"

KCC explained via the report it presented at the meeting: "The Town Regeneration Team has opened a file on the derelict fuel station."

In addition, KCC said: "We will begin derelict sites procedures, and make contact with the owners to address the current condition of the site."

Cllr Dooley said that he welcomed KCC’s response.
