Mayor of Naas and Charlie Bird help needy in Philippines with fundraiser

Mayor of Naas Cllr James Lawless is hosting a coffee and cake morning at his Naas office tomorrow to raise funds for a charity working in the Philippines.
The event at 11am will support World Missions Ireland (WMI) which is helping 2,000 people living in poverty in a cemetery in the country. A DVD will be screened showing former RTE reporter Charlie Bird's recent visit to the Pagtay Cemetery in Manila.
A spokeswoman said: "World Missions Ireland has visited the sprawling cemetery, met the people who live there and is co-operating with the Columban Missionary Sisters who are working tirelessly to provide help and hope for these people.
"The Sisters have been given a disused Church in which to teach, feed and provide recreation to the many children who call the cemetery ‘home’ and they are currently trying to raise funds to refurbish the church which is in a state of disrepair."
