It’s claimed that Dunnes Stores suffered a number of burglaries

A man entered the Dunnes Stores outlet in Newbridge on six occasions during the early hours to take property.

This was the allegation made by a garda at Naas District Court.

Before the court was Richard Coogan, 44, whose address was given as 26 Riverside Green, Kilcullen.

He faces allegations of trespass at Woodbine Books, Kilcullen, on July 24; trespass and criminal damage to a window and door of a car at Weeping Ash, Moorefield Road, Newbridge on September 23; theft at Dunnes Stores, Moorefield Road, Newbridge on September 23; trespass at Moorefield Cottages, Newbridge, on September 23; burglary at Dunnes Stores and criminal damage at Moorefield Road, Newbridge both on September 23 and being intoxicated at Applegreen, Moorefield Road, Newbridge, on September 23.

Detective Garda Seamus Doyle told the court that when charged the defendant made no reply.

He alleged the case concerned a number of burglaries over the course of a night at one premises.

He said it will be alleged that between 12.30am and 4.30am on September 23, the defendant entered Dunnes Stores in Newbridge on six occasions and took property. He said the defendant exited the car park on each occasion.

Det Gda Doyle said items valued at €1,500 were taken and some €700-€800 worth of these were recovered in a resaleable condition.

He also claimed the incident was captured on CCTV and there was no confrontation with any staff working there.

The garda also said that there were two house burglaries and the properties were in the vicinity of Dunne Stores.

He further claimed that property from the supermarket was dropped in a house and will need forensic examination as will a hammer and a hacksaw.

Asked by Judge Patricia Cronin, the defendant opted for the case to be heard at the district court and he was remanded with consent to bail.
