A scene from 'Meet John Doe', which shows at Naas Library and Cultural Centre this December
Kildare County Council’s Library Service warmly invites members of the public to a special seasonal screening of Frank Capra’s classic film, Meet John Doe, this December.
Join us at Naas Library and Cultural Centre at 2.30pm on Saturday, December 20 for an afternoon of cinematic nostalgia. Complimentary refreshments will be served on the day.
Set in 1941, Meet John Doe tells the compelling story of Ann Mitchell (Barbara Stanwyck), a reporter, who resorts to desperate measures when she comes under threat of unemployment, after her newspaper announces imminent staff dismissals.

Keen to attract attention to her column, and prove her value to the paper, Ann writes a fictitious social injustice story about a man named John Doe who claims that, in his despair at America's neglect of the common man, he will die by his own hand on Christmas Eve.
To give the story the appearance of truth, the newspaper hires John Willoughby (Gary Cooper), a former professional ballplayer, now down on his luck and in need of money to treat an arm injury, to be their illusive John Doe.
The film explores themes of community, hope, and redemption, while offering a poignant critique of media influence and the struggles of ordinary people.
This event is open to everyone—no booking required. Celebrate the festive season with a story that champions faith in humanity and the spirit of togetherness.
